A Powerful Spice: Cinnamon!

Where does this powerful spice come from? Cinnamon is actually found in the inner bark of a tree that is referred to as Cinnamomum verum tree. Being a part of the warm spice family; coriander, ginger, turmeric, & cardamon. It is used therapeutically as a digestive aid, relieves inflammation, stabilizes blood sugar, fights against infections, increases healthy oral hygiene, and loaded with antioxidants.

A little bit of cinnamon goes a long way, and its medicinal uses are what makes it beneficial to include in your daily diet! Cinnamon can be paired with countless dishes, something as simple as a dash in your morning coffee, a sprinkle on top of your warm baked sweet potato, or a little twist to your yogurt.

Spicy Pecans

Ingredients~ 3 cups pecans or walnut halves, 3 Tbsp organic grass-fed butter, 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp cayenne pepper, 2 tsp freshly ground pepper (white is best), 1 tsp ground allspice, 1/2 tsp salt, and 2 tsp granulated monk fruit sweetener

Instructions~ Spread the nuts on a cookie sheet & toast in a 350` preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned & crunchy. The nuts will begin to smell nutty & toasty when ready. Combine all the spices, sweetener, & salt. Melt the butter over low heat. Turn the warm nuts into a bowl & toss with butter & spices until well coated.

Maple Cinnamon Grandola

Ingredients~ 2 cups Old Fashion rolled oats, 2 cups chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, and almonds), 3/4 cup maple syrup, 2 Tbsp raw honey, 1 Tbsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup chocolate chips (if desired)

Instructions~ Preheat oven to 325`. In large mixing bowl, mix together the oats & nuts. Add maple syrup, raw honey, & cinnamon. Stir until all the oats & nuts are evenly covered. Spread granola evenly on a baking sheet & bake for 20 minutes, taking it out every 5 minutes to stir (this prevents it from burning or sticking to the baking sheet).
